Waynette Jarrell, OTR
Owner – Clinical Experience: over 25 years
Waynette Jarrell is the co-owner of Pediatric Therapy Associates and director of Occupational Therapy, which was founded in October 1992. She is licensed as a registered occupational therapist.
Waynette has intensive and advanced training in both neurodevelopmental and sensory processing assessment and treatment. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Her experience includes the treatment of infants and children with developmental delays, motor and visual perceptual difficulties, ocular motor and functional vision challenges, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism and other neurological conditions. She specializes in the remediation of visual-motor, neuro developmental and sensory processing problems.
In the past, she has worked with the London Independent School District, Corpus Christi Montessori School, The Rise School and Seaside Learning Center. She also has worked with both the Nueces and Project Ninos Early Childhood Intervention Programs.
She has spoken to a variety of groups including parents and teachers as well as presented workshops through the Regional 2 Educational Center in Corpus Christi. She has attended a myriad of continuing education courses on topics such as therapeutic listening, interactive metronome, visual perceptual skills, functional vision, sensory processing, handwriting, reflex integration, sensory-based feeding, motor coordination and neurodevelopmental treatment.
Waynette began her career in 1986 working at Ada Wilson Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi where she served as interim director of the occupational therapy department in 1990 before moving with her husband to Jacksonville Florida. There she worked for the Lighthouse Learning Center, an early childhood program until she moved back to Corpus Christi in 1991 after her husband received orders to be a flight instructor at the Corpus Christi Naval Base.
She has been blessed to have had the opportunity to be a part of the Sensory Integration Mentoring Program with the Star Center in Denver, Colorado with Lucy Jane Miller, OTR. She also had the opportunity to travel as an occupational therapy delegate in 2009 with the People to People Ambassador Program to China and Mongolia.
Waynette has a love for children and sees her work at Pediatric Therapy Associates not only as a job but a vocation and feels extremely blessed for the opportunity to work with each child that is referred to her clinic.
Personal: Waynette lives in Corpus Christi with her husband Maury. She loves being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Katie Walker, OTR, COTA
Katie graduated with her occupational therapy degree in 2015. Her love and passion for all things independence and occupational therapy developed from an interest in therapeutic horseback riding. She previously worked for Christus Spohn Shoreline before having the opportunity to step into pediatrics. She moved to Corpus 5 years ago after marrying her husband, David. Before she obtained her OTA degree Katie worked as a dance teacher for Tippi Toes Dance Company teaching classes to elementary aged children. She enjoys volunteering at Glenoak Therapeutic Riding Center, fishing, spending time with her husband, and serving her church.
Mandi Williams, COTA
She was among the top students while she attended the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Del Mar College, and graduated Summa Cum Laude. Mandi knew that the pediatric population is who she was called to work with, and feels very blessed to be part of the team at Pediatric Therapy Associates.
Personal: Mandi has one child, and lives with her daughter and sister. She spends her time playing with her daughter and visiting with her family. Mandi enjoys working with the pre school department at her church, going to the beach, and sitting down with a good book and a cup of coffee.
Christa Williams, COTA
Christa was among the top in her class as she attended the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Del Mar College, and knew from day one that she wanted to focus on pediatric therapy. She was blessed to go through the program with her sister Mandi, and enjoyed having a built in study partner. She also feels blessed that the Occupational Therapy department in the clinic has expanded and Mandi now gets to be a part of the team as well.
PERSONAL: Christa lives with her sister and niece and enjoys getting to spend time with them both during this season in her life. She is very close with her family and enjoys visiting them as often as possible. Christa enjoys working with the pre-school department at church, reading, painting and relaxing with a cup of coffee.
